MHC provides educational resources for teachers who would like to customise their museum visits or bring their students on a self-guided visit.  These resources include a Parents’ and Educators’ Guide and are available in English and Malay.

Passport Singapura Activity Kit

Travel to the bustling town and trading port of Kampong Gelam and learn more about its stories through “Passport Singapura”. 

This activity booklet introduces the permanent galleries of the Malay Heritage Centre through a series of fun activities. The accompanying Parent/Teacher’s Kit serves as a guide for teachers who are bringing students on self-guided tours within our galleries.

'Voyage of Discovery' Activity Kit

What are the stories behind a family's heirloom? Go on a ‘Voyage of Discovery’ with Laila as she discovers a suitcase of Atok’s (grandfather’s) treasures and learn more about the Bugis community. This activity pack comes with a Parents’ and Educators’ Guide for adults to conduct a self-guided visit. 

Available in English & Malay at $3.50 each. Get them at our Museum Label shop, at the Malay Heritage Centre!

In conjunction with ‘Sirri na Pesse: Navigating Bugis Identities in Singapore’ Special Exhibition from 14 October 2017 to 24 June 2018 .

Create your own kerongsang (brooch) at the Malay Heritage  Centre and see the actual artefact for yourself! Besides learning  about the accessory, students will also find out more about the  goods traded by Banjarese merchants.

Teachers may reserve the self-guided craft activity when they  book a visit to the museum. The activity may be conducted by a  teacher before or after the tour.

Little Curators' Workshop

Little Curators' Workshop

Get up close and personal with rare artefacts and experience what it is like to be a curator for a day in this fun-filled workshop by the Malay Heritage Centre. Students will understand the functions of a museum, gain new skills and appreciate the tasks involved in curating an exhibition.

They will also learn how to create a mini exhibition with their classmates.

Duration: 2 hours
Group size: Minimum 15; maximum 20 participants

Fee: $400.00 per group

Learn how to be a museum guide in the Malay Heritage Centre from our experienced and passionate docents. Students will gain useful lifeskills and confidence to lead guided tours after the training.

"Did You Know - Fun Fact" Pull-up Banners

The “Did You Know – Fun Fact” pull-up banners introduce students to the Malay Heritage Centre and some of the artefacts featured in the permanent galleries.Schools can borrow these portable pull-up banners for events, festivals or as pre or post museum visit resources.

Artefacts which are highlighted include the haj belt, the musical score of Majulah Singapura, and an image of the Baweanese community in Singapore. Students can also access an online quiz hosted on Kahoot!.

*The online quiz is available in both English and Malay.

"Seafarers Ahoy!" A Pre-school Teachers' Training Workshop

Join Playeum’s half day training at the Malay Heritage Centre for preschool teachers and explore how children can be engaged and motivated to create their artwork. 

Created for the Centre's “Sirri na Pesse: Navigating Bugis Identities in Singapore” special exhibition, the training includes the foundation of best practice pedagogies, usage of language and other considerations when creating and delivering content for children. Teachers will get to explore ideas on how open-ended play workshops can be created for children to enjoy.

The workshop includes a presentation, group discussions and hands-on activities.
